When I offered up the wishbone to the fixing points it looked as though there was no way it was going to fit. I soon realised that the only way to close the gap was to fit the rear bush into position and then manipulate the front one - this required a reasonable amount of force.
The solution was to apply a little bit of copper slip to the both the bushes and the inside edges of the chassis fixing points. Once the wishbone was located and held in position by a conveniently sized paper towel roll, I found that the bolts slipped home with a slight tap of the deadblow hammer.
