I was keen to improve the induction noise in the engine while, at the same time, make a little extra space in the engine bay. With some bigger trips planned and thinnking about the luggage / space requirements, I wanted to mave the tool kit which was taking up about a third of the boot space into the engine bay if possible.

The easiest and cheapest way to do this was to replace the Air Filter with a K&N cone filter. A very simple task which required undoing and removing the Air Box and the pipe connecting it to the Plenum.

The K&N filter is a siimple cone shaped foam one which needs to sprayed with an oil to make it effective. This is supplied as part of the maintenance kit and helpfully is light blue in colour - making it easy to see where it has been applied. The trick is not to coat it with too much oil so that it becomes a sticky mess. Once a year it is recommended to remove the filter for cleaning and a fresh application of the oil.

The effect on the induction noise was very subtle - only really noticeable when accelerating hard from low revs. However, the change has made more space available in the engine bay.
